Higher Education in Canada
Higher education in Canada is divided into three branches: universities, colleges and institutes. Jurisdiction for education is the responsibility of provincial governments and results in some differences between regions. Provinces are responsible for regulating, funding, accrediting programs and institutions. The federal government supports education through funding support to provinces and for research.
In spite of differences there are commonalities across all regions. Quality control, research and assurance of learning is very important in all provinces. Canadian universities are highly valued and respected across the country and around the world.
