University of Northern British Columbia
School of Business
Since its founding in 1990, the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) has emerged as one of Canada’s best small research-intensive universities, with a passion for teaching, discovery, people, and the North. Located in the spectacular landscape near the geographic centre of beautiful British Columbia, UNBC’s excellence is derived from community-inspired research, hands-on learning, and alumni who are leading change around the world.
For the past 10 years, UNBC has placed in the top three in its category in the annual Maclean’s university rankings, the only University of its size to achieve that feat. UNBC also recently placed among the top four per cent of higher education institutions worldwide and the elite young universities worldwide by Times Higher Education.
The UNBC School of Business is the largest academic program in the University and strongly committed to excellence in teaching and research. We provide students with a high-quality, well-rounded business education experience. We continually seek new options and opportunities for reaching out to communities in the North and around the world through our undergraduate and graduate programs.
Our programs
The UNBC School of Business offers three degrees – A Bachelor of Commerce with majors in Accounting, Finance, General Business, Human Resources, International Business, Management Information Systems, and Marketing; a Master of Business Administration in Prince George, Vancouver, and Grande Prairie and a Master of Science in Business Administration.
The School of Business provides applied learning opportunities through real world business projects, interactive business simulations and games, internships, and Co-op.
Our current curriculum is well aligned with professional designations such as CPA (Chartered Professional Accountants), CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst), CPHR (Chartered Professionals in Human Resources), and CIM (Certified in Management). We keep looking for further opportunities with other professional designations, which significantly increases the employability of our graduates.
Our city
Located in north-central British Columbia, Prince George is a city of 80,000 people with impressive cultural, educational, and recreational amenities. Prince George is a friendly, family oriented community, with a wide range of quality schools and a variety of affordable housing. The lakes, forests and mountains of Northern and central British Columbia offer an unparalleled natural environment in which to live, work and play.
Why study here?
Our Business students pursue one or more of seven different majors with an exposure to all aspects of the contemporary business world. In addition, our students gain hands-on learning experience in research through the Honours program and Undergraduate Research Experience program. A recent BComm graduate mentioned, “I can say that without a doubt this opportunity enhanced my overall educational experience at UNBC. It allowed me to have a hands-on learning experience in academic research. After talking to many of my friends at other universities across the country, they were shocked that undergraduate students had access to such a unique opportunity. I cannot thank UNBC enough for offering this experience to their students, and strongly encourage my fellow students to take advantage of it. It was such an enriching and rewarding experience.”
