MacEwan University, of which the School of Business is a part of, is a vibrant community located in the heart of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Founded in 1971, MacEwan University takes a “Students First” approach; ensuring programs and services are delivered in a way that prioritizes the learner. In addition, our institutional culture is one that is committed to sustainability and responsible stewardship throughout the campus and our local community. As a lively campus community, there are also ample opportunities to engage with the greater university campus and the surrounding community to create the educational experience desired.
At the MacEwan University School of Business, we believe education extends beyond the classroom. We work hard to ensure our programs are in tune with what is happening in the business world by encouraging faculty research, establishing innovative partnerships, and attaining accreditations with professional organizations. The School of Business has a focus on experiential, and work-integrated learning including co-operative education, student-engaged research, participation in student clubs, and international study tours to enrich the educational experience. We endeavor to produce industry-ready graduates with ethical values and principles, and a desire to have a positive impact on their communities.
Graduates from our School find employment in many of the diverse sectors found throughout Edmonton and beyond. Major employers include: Deloitte, PWC, KPMG, E&Y, AIMCo; as well as the major Canadian banks, energy, manufacturing, and the health sector. In addition, Edmonton has a vibrant entrepreneur scene that makes the city a hub for start-ups and investment.
Our programs
The School of Business offers a wide variety of programs that vary in length from one-year certificates, two-year diplomas, to a four-year degree. There are eight diploma programs from a cross-section of business fields, and the Bachelor of Commerce Degree has seven majors, with opportunities for a large number of minors across multiple disciplines. Some of our programs are also accredited by professional bodies such as Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA), Chartered Institute of Management (CIM), Supply Chain Canada, and Chartered Professionals in Human Resources (CPHR). Our city
Edmonton is the most northern city in North America. The North Saskatchewan river and the longest stretch of connected parkland in North America runs through the city. Edmonton is the capital of Alberta with a cosmopolitan population of over one million people. Like its population, the city has quite a diverse economy. In addition to being a hub for oil, gas, and government, it also has major industrial sectors, including a strong technology sector, and is one of Canada’s premier research and education centers.
Known as “Festival City” Edmonton hosts some of the largest theatre and music festivals in North America. With a thriving arts scene and plenty of retail and entertainment attractions, Edmonton is a fun place to live.

MacEwan University has a relatively small student population, small class sizes and plenty of student clubs.
